You've signed up for a race. You've got a goal.
Now you need a plan to get you there.
Maybe you've downloaded a training plan online or started using a running app. But how do you know if that plan is actually right for you?
What happens when you miss a session? When work gets busy, you get ill, or life simply doesn't go according to plan?
Do you squeeze everything into the following week? Skip a workout? Start again?
This workshop is for you, who want to gain the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about your own training.
A key factor in achieving your goals is being able to recognise and celebrate every win along the way. And knowing how to design a plan that's challenging yet achievable is essential to making sure you actually follow through with it.
But that also means understanding how you're feeling every day, how your body responds after each run and when you might need to adjust your training.
Because no matter how clever the technology gets, no app can get inside your head (at least not yet 👀).
Session 1: Understand Your TrainingThe principles behind an effective training plan.
We'll explore how endurance training works, what different types of sessions achieve and how to balance training intensity, volume and recovery.
You'll learn how to assess your starting point, set realistic goals and understand what your body needs to progress.
Session 2: Build Your PlanTurn your Garmin data into a programme that works.
We'll look at how to structure a training block, organise your weekly sessions and build towards your target race.
Using your Garmin data, the templates provided and AI tools, you'll start building your own training plan, tailored to your fitness, experience, availability and lifestyle, while accounting for all the races on your calendar, not just your main A race.
Session 3: Adapt, Adjust & ProgressBecause life rarely goes to plan.
What happens when you miss a workout, get sick, feel exhausted or realise your original goal needs adjusting?
You'll learn how to make informed decisions about your training, recognise when to push and when to recover, and adapt your programme without losing sight of the bigger picture. The goal isn't to create a perfect plan. It's to create one you understand, trust and know how to adjust.
Your race. Your goals. Your life. Your plan.

I am passionate about helping runners achieve their goals because achieving mine has changed my life.
“Zaira has absolutely transformed my running! She is patient, encouraging and so knowledgable." — Jasmine D.
Hey, I'm Zaira!
I'm an England Athletics Running Coach, Level 3 Personal Trainer and a marathon runner myself, with 14 marathons and an ultramarathon under my belt.
My approach to coaching is simple: training should be built around the athlete, not the other way around.
I believe runners should understand the purpose behind their training, rather than simply being told what to do.
And while personalised coaching can be incredibly valuable, I also believe that access to good training knowledge shouldn't depend on whether you can afford a coach.
That's why I created The Self-Coached Runner method.
To share the principles, tools and practical knowledge I use as a coach, so you can make more informed decisions about your own training.
Meet Your Coach
What if you could coach yourself?
Imagine knowing how to structure your training around your goals, rather than fitting your life around a rigid schedule.
Understanding the purpose behind your sessions, how they work together and when to push harder or pull back.
Knowing how to adjust your training when things don't go to plan, without feeling like you've ruined weeks of progress.
And doing all of this without spending thousands of pounds and countless hours qualifying as a coach, or sifting through endless, often conflicting online advice that may not even apply to you.
You don't need to become a running coach to understand how to programme for yourself like one. You just need to learn the principles.
Good coaching knowledge shouldn't be a luxury.
Running apps cost around £16 a month, leave so much on the table and can be incredibly frustrating when you need to reset your training for whatever reason.
A running coach can cost anywhere from £120 to £350 a month. That's a huge financial commitment that many people simply can't afford, especially long term.
I've always been a bit of a geek, and I genuinely believe knowledge goes a long way.
That's what these three sessions offer. The knowledge, tools and principles to take control of your own training, without spending hundreds of hours trying to decipher what's useful and what's BS content designed to please an algorithm rather than deliver what's best for YOU.
Three sessions. £79. Knowledge you can use for years to come.

Not at all. The workshop is designed to be accessible to runners of different experience levels. Some familiarity with running will help, but you don't need to understand training terminology or have followed a structured programme before.
-
Not at all! The principles we'll cover apply to all running distances, whether you're training for a 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon or beyond. You'll learn how to adapt your training plan to your own goals, experience and chosen distance.
-
You'll receive templates and guidance to help you build your own plan. This is an educational workshop rather than a personalised coaching service, so the focus is on teaching you how to make those decisions independently.
-
Not exactly. A coach provides ongoing individualised guidance, feedback and accountability. This workshop is designed for runners who want to manage their own training while developing a better understanding of the principles behind it.
-
No specialist training software is required. However, we strongly recommend using a running watch or wearable, as much of what we'll cover is grounded in training science and informed by the data these devices collect.
While Garmin users will benefit most from the practical guidance on using their watch and interpreting its data, the training principles are transferable to other wearables. You'll also receive the tools and templates needed to follow along.
